On the back of the Summer 2016 fashion show collection, where Dolce&Gabbana masterfully combined Oriental inspirations with Sicilian folk motifs much like the unique aesthetic of the Chinese Palace in Palermo, themes from Oriental art contaminate the menswear collection.
As well as chinoiserie inspired birds prints, Dolce&Gabbana has also borrowed from Chinese Astrology to create unique statements in the Summer 2016 collection. This year is the Lunar year of the Monkey, and the primate has been transposed onto menswear. As well as cartoon inspired prints on t-shirts, monkeys also feature in tandem with classic prints from traditional menswear to create an eccentric smart casual statement.
Earthy colours presenting printed monkeys resting on tree branches are combined with classic prints from menswear like micro checks and geometric foulard borders in line with Dolce&Gabbana’s unusual use of this traditional fabric square. Poplin shirts and silk bombers are combined with denim, even an entire denim suit for an eccentric smart casual look apt for the modern gentleman.
