Dolce&Gabbana sent out on the Fall Winter 2016-17 runway in Milan the fashionable personification of the “modern princess”. We all grew up with the concept of the fairy tale princess, as some sort of mythical figure of the perfect young lady. Today, the fairy tale princess as we remember her from our childhood is out of style, and Dolce&Gabbana has created an image, a style and a wardrobe for the modern version.
A strong, independent working woman who dominates the runway, as she dominates in life. Floaty princess gowns were juxtaposed to masculine military style looks which were usually associated with the leading male of the fantasy, and crystal like pumps were worn alongside work style boots or sneakers, as today’s princesses can choose to wear dainty footwear and sportsluxe sneakers with the same ease, class and style.
Thus we have interpreted this vision, taking it one step further, and created a shoot where the the iconic life events of the princesses from our youth merge with our contemporary existence. We aren’t poisoned by an apple, we enjoy it as our morning break, we don’t wait for a carriage, but may scramble to get a cab on a rainy evening and sometimes leave something behind….
