Sheer Luxury

Between DNA and seasonal trends

Patches and flower embroideries embellish tulle and net fabrics to create which create the unique interpretation by Dolce&Gabbana of the sheer seasonal trend.

Sheer or semi sheer looks are one of the hottest trends to have emerged from the Spring Summer 2016 runways. Lace, tulle, chiffon and net are the leading players of the trends, with billowing silhouettes on one side or figure skimming body con looks on the other, showing the different facets of the wearer, and of the trend.

Sheer is not only a trend for Spring Summer 2016, it is also part of Dolce&Gabbana’s DNA. In fact, the design duo sent out on the runway a plethora of different sheer looks, many of which seasonal interpretations, born of a confidence with transparent fabrics which spans their 30 year history.

Stretch dusty blue tulle is draped and moulded to the female form thanks to the masterful eye of the designers, and their wish to make every woman feel beautiful. The raw edged hems give the dress an instantly recognizable feel of immediacy, as though the fabric has simply been pinned and the model rushed out on the catwalk. Beauty is natural, unstudied, immediate.

Netting too makes a comeback to the Dolce&Gabbana runway. This humble fabric, with its humble origins, inspired by the nets used by the Sicilian fishermen in their day to day work is fashioned into exquisite dresses, and embroidered with patches that reference other Italian traditions and monuments.

The same embroidery styles grace stunning tulle gowns, while culottes and balcony bralets, or bodysuits are as much part of the Dolce&Gabbana DNA as the form fitting dresses, and they are the protagonists of these sheer yet elegant looks.
