In the occasion of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, Dolce&Gabbana and Smeg unveil their Frigorifero d’Arte project at the Metropol Theatre amongst Sicilian folk culture and carretti.

The Salone Internazionale de Mobile in Milan is a once yearly event that has everyone take an interest in a form of art that is all around us all the time: design. Here fashion, sculpture, traditional arts merge with design in a week long event that takes over the city and is one of the most anticipated fairs by both professionals of the design sector and design lovers.

For 2016, Dolce&Gabbana has partnered with Smeg for a special collaboration of one-of-a-kind Fab28 fridges. Each Frigorifero d’Arte is hand decorated by Sicilian artisans who are charged with maintaining the ancient tradition of Sicilian cart decorating as well as ceramics painting and more alive n this industrialized world. Of these 100 limited edition fridges, a selection is on display at Dolce&Gabbana’s Metropol Theatre.

On the 13th April, the exhibition opened with a Sicilian Festa, with folk singers performing and one of the artisans demonstrating his skills with live painting. All done with the backdrop of an antique horse drawn carretto siciliano. Friends of Dolce&Gabbana, rigorously dressed in carretto print fashion, and design lovers, and professionals sipped bubbly whilst enjoying typical Sicilian street food like arancini, while perusing the intricate designs which make these fridges real object of desire.

If you want to catch a glimpse of the fridges you can pop by the Metropol until Sunday 17th, or if you wish to enquire about the fridges please write an email to DGSmeg@smeg.it.
